West Orange HS boys’ basketball team moves to 8-6 mark

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Elizabeth and East Orange Campus before losing to University and Irvington to move to an 8-6 overall record, 6-1 in the Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division.

Goddy Marc scored 21 points with five three-pointers to lead the Mountaineers to a 52-51 road win over Elizabeth on Jan. 15 in a non-division game. Kenyon Sheard had six points and Toby Okani scored four points

WOHS defeated East Orange, 49-45, Jan. 16, at home in a Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division game. Anan Narain had 11 points; Jelani Jackson and Marc each had nine points; Robert Meaux had eight points and five rebounds; William Garth-Hill had two points and seven rebounds and Okani had four points.

Jackson scored 26 points and added three rebounds, three assists and three steals, but the Mountaineers lost at University, 71-62, Jan. 18, in Newark for their first division loss of the season. Chris Latimer had 10 points, three assists and three steals. Meaux had eight points and seven rebounds; Marc scored six points; Garth-Hill had four points, seven rebounds and two blocks; and Narain and Sheard each had three points.

Despite the loss, West Orange remained in first place in the SEC-Liberty Division.

West Orange lost at Irvington, 56-50, Saturday, Jan. 20, in a SEC non-division game. Jackson had 15 points; Latimer had eight points; Godly Marc posted seven points; Garth-Hill had six points and seven rebounds; Nick Dover had four points, five assists and four steals;and Meaux had four points and five rebounds.
