West Orange HS boys’ basketball team wins three in a row in tuneup for state tourney

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School boys’ basketball team defeated Barringer, Kearny and Montclair Kimberley Academy in three straight games to improve to a 15-9 record.

Jelani Jackson had 17 points and Stephon Sheard had 12 points to lead the Mountaineers to a 77-74 overtime win over Barringer on Feb. 19 at home. William Garth-Hill had eight points; Goddy Marc had six points; Godly Marc had five and Robert Meaux, Anant Narain and Ismail Taylor each had four.

Stephon Sheard scored 16 points, and Stanley Charles and Goddy Marc each had 12 points in the 85-48 win over Kearny on Feb. 22. Godly Marc, Narain and Toby Okani each had seven points; Chris Latimer and Meaux each posted six points; and Garth-Hill had six points and eight rebounds; and Jackson had six points.

Goddy Marc had 15 points and five rebounds and Meaux had 12 points and seven rebounds in the 65-61 win at Montclair Kimberley Academy on Feb. 23. Jackson had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists; Garth-Hill had eight points and nine rebounds; Stephon Sheard had eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists and Narain had six points and six rebounds.

WOHS, seeded 10th, was scheduled to visit No. 7 seed Union City in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 state tournament on Feb. 27. The winner will face the winner of No. 2 seed Hackensack and No. 7 seed Montclair in the quarterfinals on March 1.
