WEST ORANGE – The West Orange High School boys’ indoor track and field team finished fourth overall in the boys’ team standings at the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 Championships on Feb. 14 at the Bennett Complex in Toms River.
The Mountaineers had 38 points based on the top six finishes in each event. Ridgewood was first with 42 points, followed by Randolph with 40 and Morristown with 39.
Timothy Van Cauwenberge, a senior, won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.93 and took third in the high jump at 6 feet to lead WOHS. Senior Lawson Nzegwu took second in the 55-meter hurdles behind Van Cauwenberge in 8.09. Senior Daniel Pierre was fourth in the pole vault at 11-0. Senior Joseph Onubogu was fourth in the 400-meter run in 2:01.68. The 4×400-meter relay team took third in 3:35.34, with Onubogu, Van Cauwenberge and sophomores Elijah McLaren and Ebizie Anuamadi.
On the girls’ side, WOHS tied for eighth with Hackensack with 10 points. Junior Bukola Akinsola was fourth in the 400-meter run in 1:01.94, Akinsola joined junior Kristina Boafo and sophomores Maxine Nzegwu and Angeline Fields in finishing third in the 4×400-meter relay in 4:16.93.
The top six finishers in each event qualified for the state Group 4 Championship meet on Feb. 19 at the Bennett Complex.
