WEST ORANGE – West Orange High School senior Zach Brown signed a National Letter of Intent in accepting a soccer scholarship to Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa.
Brown helped lead the WOHS boys’ soccer team to a magnificent season last fall. The Mountaineers, under head coach Doug Nevins, won the Super Essex Conference-American Division championship and won the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 tournament championship before finishing as state Group 4 runner-up with a stellar 21-2 record. WOHS also was ranked No. 4 in New Jersey, No. 6 in the East Region and No. 31 in the nation by topdrawersoccer.com.
As a sophomore in 2013, Brown helped the Mountaineers capture the sectional and state Group 4 championships.
Temple, a Division 1 program, finished with a 10-7-2 overall record last fall.
Nevins lauded Brown’s tremendous career.
“Zach will go down as one of the best all-around players in school history,” Nevins said. “He was a three-year varsity starter at center mid. In his three years, we won one SEC title, two North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 titles, and one Group 4 title. We were ranked in the state all three years and ranked in the nation this year.
“If Zach works hard, he will do really well at Temple University which is a very good D-1 program.”
