West Orange HS boys’ soccer team advances to ECT semifinals

WEST ORANGE, NJ – Edgar Moreno, Wes Rideau-Winds and Maurice Williams each had a goal to lead the fourth-seeded West Orange High School varsity boys’ soccer team to a 3-0 win over fifth-seeded Montclair Kimberley Academy in the Essex County Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 21, at home.

Dario Caraha, Manny DePierola and Kenneth Vaquiz each had an assist, and Paul Shuler made five saves for the Mountaineers, who improved to 10-3-4.

WOHS will meet crosstown neighbor and top-seeded Seton Hall Prep in the ECT semifinals doubleheader at Millburn HS on Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. The other semifinal pits No. 3 seed Millburn against No. 2 seed Montclair at 7 p.m.

SHP defeated WOHS, 1-0, in overtime on a goal by Jon Ned on Oct. 9.

DePierola and Brent Llewellyn each had two goals and one assist in the 5-0 home win over 13th-seeded Nutley in the ECT first round on Oct. 19. Williams had one goal and one assist; and Yasin Aly added an assist. Shuler made four saves and Matt Kotowski made one save to combine for the shutout.
