WEST ORANGE, NJ — The second-seeded West Orange High School boys soccer team defeated third-seeded Clifton, 4-0, in the semifinals of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association/Wawa North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4, tournament on Nov. 8 at WOHS’ Lincoln field.
The Mountaineers, who improved to 19-4 overall on the season, will visit top-seeded Kearny in the final on Thursday, Nov. 11.
West Orange overwhelmed Clifton with a goal in the first 28 seconds of the game. At the 22-minute mark of the first half, West Orange led 4-0.
Ari Rosu, Nathan Menor, Francisco Soca, and Jack Dvorin all scored for the Mountaineers, whose strong defense shut down Clifton.
“Tyreese Folkes contributed three assists, along with assists from Mason Bashkoff and Francisco Soca. Justin Scavalla had five saves in the shutout,” said WOHS head coach Doug Nevins. “We played a great defense to defend our lead after an amazing performance scoring four goals in the first 20 minutes. This is an incredible game against anyone but when you do it to the No. 8 team in the state semifinals, it’s a dream.”
WOHS defeated seventh-seeded Union City, 2-0, in the quarterfinals on Nov. 4. Arthur Rosu scored both goals, and Jeremy Green and Ari Rosu each had an assist. Scavalla made five saves for the shutout.
