WEST ORANGE – The West Orange High School boys’ varsity soccer team is one win from winning its second state Group 4 championship in three years.
The Mountaineers, under 16th-year head coach Doug Nevins, will face defending champion Washington Township in the state Group 4 championship game at Kean University in Union on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 3 p.m.
The Mountaineers, who won their sixth North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 title in 13 seasons, defeated Section 2 champion Elizabeth, 3-0, in the semifinals at Hopewell Valley on Nov. 17. Zach Brown had one goal and one assist; and Andrei Rosu and Kamsi Udodi each had a goal for WOHS, which improved to a 21-1 record. Pancho Pozzolli, Zach Ames and Dillon Reitberger each had an assist and Diego Pedrido made five saves for the Mountaineers. WOHS beat Randolph, also by a 3-0 score, in the sectional final.
Washington Township is 24-1-1.
