MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The West Orange High School varsity football team earned its first win of the season in impressive fashion.
Senior slotback C.J. Wilson rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and senior quarterback Vincent DeSantis passed for 93 yards and a TD on nine of 13 attempts to power the Mountaineers to a 43-13 win over Columbia on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Underhill Field in a North Jersey Super Football Conference-Liberty Blue Division game.
The Mountaineers moved to a 1-2 record. Columbia fell to 0-3.
Senior receiver L’trell Bradley also threw a TD pass and had two catches for 67 yards and a TD. On defense, Bradley posted seven tackles and an interception from his defensive back position.
Junior wide receiver Jordan White had three catches for 67 yards and a TD and collected five tackles as a free safety.
Wilson also caught three passes for 14 yards. Sophomore Michael Charles rushed for 37 yards on six carries.
Junior linebacker Jordan Johnson had nine tackles, including four for loss; and junior lineman Femy Diomande had five tackles, including three for loss. Senior outside linebacker Sebastian Rawls had seven tackles.
The Mountaineers finished with 214 rushing yards and 152 passing yards.
WOHS will host Bloomfield on Thursday Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. Bloomfield is coming off its first loss of the season, falling to North Bergen, 21-0, at home to move to 2-1.
