The West Orange High School varsity football team dropped another heartbreaking game, losing to Bloomfield, 22-21, in overtime on Friday, Oct. 19, at Foley Field in Bloomfield.
The Mountaineers lost for the fourth straight time and fell to a 2-6 overall record.
Tied at 14-14, West Orange got the ball first in overtime and scored on sophomore Shakhi Carson’s 20-yard run, followed by junior Bryan Reitberger’s point-after kick to take a 21-14 lead.
Bloomfield answered on its possession in overtime on Kyle Tice’s 25-yard TD pass to Christian Parisi. Tice hooked up again with Parisi on the two-point conversion to win it.
Senior Jordan White scored on a 12-yard run and Reitberger kicked the extra point in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, senior Terrence Touissaint hit sophomore Omari Hutchinson on a 25-yard TD pass and Reitberger kicked the extra point to give WOHS a 14-6 halftime lead.
Tice threw a 20-yard TD pass to Will Robinson in the fourth quarter. Tice and Robinson hooked up again on the two-point conversion to tie it 14-14.
Bloomfield improved to 3-5.
Defensively for the Mountaineers, junior linebacker Adonis May had eight tackles and an interception; senior LB Kevan McLaughlin had seven tackles and a fumble recovery; Toussaint had six tackles and an interception as a defensive back; senior lineman Femi Diomande had three tackles, a sack and a forced fumble; White had five tackles as a DB and Matthew Bove had three tackles and a fumble recovery.
The Mountaineers will visit Barringer on Saturday,Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. at Schools Stadium.
The Mountaineers continued to suffer close losses. They fell to Livingston, 13-12; East Orange Campus, 14-7; and Passaic County Tech, 12-6; before the loss to Bloomfield.
