WEST ORANGE, NJ (updated Monday Nov. 6, 3:05 p.m.) – The West Orange High School varsity football team hopes to close out the season on a winning note.

The Mountaineers will visit Paterson Kennedy in an NJSIAA state consolation game today, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. at Buerle Field in the season finale. Kennedy is 4-4.

West Orange fell at East Orange Campus, 29-19, Saturday, Nov. 4, at Paul Robeson Stadium in East Orange to move to a 3-5-1 record.

East Orange took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on sophomore Quadir Scott’s 3-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Nasir Montgomery, followed by senior Rady Rojas’ extra point kick.

The Mountaineers tied it 7-7 when senior quarterback Dylan Cowley scored on a 5-yard run.

In the third quarter, Cowley threw a 44-yard TD pass to senior wide receiver Michael Giovine to give the Mountaineers a 13-7 lead. The point-after kick was missed.

Scott connected with Montgomery on a 32-yard TD pass to tie it 13-13 later in the third quarter. The extra point kick was missed.

Senior running back Devonne Swan scored on a 32-yard run and Rady Rojas kicked the extra point to give East Orange an 20-13 lead. East Orange recorded a safety to extend it to 22-13 at the end of the third quarter.

Freshman Ijicard Jacques ran for a 65-yard TD and Rojas kicked the extra point to make it 29-13 in the fourth quarter.

Cowley threw a 5-yard TD pass to junior Jordan White for the final score. The two-point pass was unsuccessful.
