West Orange HS football team rolls by Morristown

WEST ORANGE, NJ (updated Tuesday Oct. 11, 10:28 a.m.) – Junior running back CJ Wilson rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns and sophomore quarterback Sal Paschall passed for 182 yards on five of 12 attempts with two touchdowns and ran for another touchdown to lead the West Orange High School varsity football team to an emphatic 42-14 win over Morristown on Saturday, Oct. 8, in Morristown.

Senior linebacker and Rutgers University-bound CJ Onyechi also forced and returned a fumble for a touchdown for the Mountaineers. Onyechi finished with 13 tackles, including three tackles for loss,  four sacks, two fumble recoveries and a blocked field goal.

The Mountaineers improved to a 2-3 record. Morristown fell to 1-4.

In the first quarter, Paschall threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to junior Mike Giovine, followed by senior Ryan Carraha’s extra-point kick. Paschall ran for a 5-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter for a 13-0 lead. The extra-point kick failed.

Paschall connected with senior Renitho Philemon on a 28-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Pascall also hit Philemon on the subsequent two-point conversion pass to make it 21-0.

Morristown scored two touchdowns to cut the Mountaineers’ lead to 21-14 at the half.

In the third quarter, Wilson scored on a 5-yard run. The point-after kick made it 28-14.

Onyechi forced a fumble and returned it 30 yards into the end zone later in the third quarter. The extra-point extended it to 35-14.

In the fourth quarter, Wilson ran for a 93-yard touchdown. The extra point produced the final score.

It was the second straight year that the Mountaineers beat Morristown. WOHS won in the season finale over Morristown last year.

The Mountaineers will host Barringer on Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m.
