NEWARK, NJ – Senior quarterback Vincent DeSantis passed for 190 yards and four touchdowns and senior slotback Chris Wilson rushed for 167 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries to lead the West Orange High School varsity football team to a 41-14 win over Barringer on Friday night, Oct. 13, at Schools Stadium in Newark.
The win was the Mountaineers’ third in four games and improved their record to 3-3.
The Mountaineers took a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Senior slotback Sebastian Rawls ran for a 52-yard TD and sophomore place-kicker Bryan Reitberger kicked the point-after for a 7-0 lead.
DeSantis threw a 48-yard TD pass to junior wide receiver Jordan White. The extra-point kick failed.
In the second quarter, Barringer scored on a 34-yard TD pass and added the two-point conversion pass to cut it to 13-8.
DeSantis connected with senior wide receiver Michael Giovine on a 40-yard TD pass and Reitberger kicked the extra point to give the Mountaineers a 20-8 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, DeSantis threw a 45-yard TD pass to freshman wide receiver Dorian Rawls and Wilson scored on an 80-yard TD. Reitberger kicked both extra points as the Mountaineers led 34-8.
In the fourth quarter, DeSantis threw an 8-yard TD pass to Giovine and Reitberger kicked the point-after to make it 41-8. Baringer closed out the scoring on a 40-yard run.
DeSantis finished 12 of 16 passing.
Next game: The Mountaineers will host Montclair (4-0) on Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. in a North Jersey Super Football Conference-Liberty Blue Division game. WOHS is 2-1 in the division and Montclair is 2-0. Montclair is scheduled to host Morristown on Oct. 14.
