WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange High School girls cross-country team placed second in the Super Essex Conference–Liberty Division Championship meet held at Branch Brook Park in Newark on Oct. 12.
Under head coach Jason Lamont Jackson, the 2020 defending champions came into the season unsure who would be in the top 7. They entered the championship meet ranked fifth and bested three teams to finish in the silver medal team position.
The team was led by junior Sana’a Smith, who had a 30-plus-second personal record, followed by Delaney Kerr, Vanessa Frederic and Santija Moul, all of whom had personal bests for the season.
The top six was rounded out by two freshmen, Lily Sandels and Nina Davis.
This was a total team effort as they finished only five points ahead of the third- and fourth-place teams in the division.
