WEST ORANGE – The West Orange High School girls’ varsity basketball team lost to top-seeded and defending champion East Orange Campus, 54-34, in the quarterfinals of the Essex County Tournament on Feb. 20 at EOCHS.
Freshman Mya Bembry scored 11 points and junior Dawn Flood and senior Sidney Gordon each had six points for the Lady Mountaineers, who moved to an 8-14 record.
In previous action, Bembry hit the game-winning layup in overtime to lift the Mountaineers to a 37-35 win over West Essex on Feb. 16.
Bemby had 19 points, but the Mountaineers lost to University, 61-42, Feb. 18 in Newark. Sophomore Aliya Perkins had five points; and Flood and Kaija Jones each had three points.
The 14th-seeded Mountaineers will visit third-seeded Bloomfield in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 1,Group 4 tournament on March 1.
