West Orange HS girls’ indoor track and field team finishes second at Essex County Championships

Seton Hall Prep finishes third on the boys' side

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School girls’ indoor track and field team finished second overall in the girls’ team standings at the Essex County Championships held at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. this past Monday, Jan. 21.

The Mountaineers had 49 points. Montclair was first with 76 points.

Abigail Vital won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.54 and Denae Hill won the shot put at 38 feet-7.5 inches to lead West Orange.

Vital also was fifth in the 200-meter dash in 26.24 and seventh in the 400 dash in 1:02.44.

Kayla Robe was second in the 400 dash in 59.63. Alina Chant took fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 12:17.30. Andree Celestin was second in the high jump at 4-10 and fourth in the 55 hurdles in 8.77. Stephanie Urias was sixth in the shot put at 29-1.

On the boys’ side, Seton Hall Prep finished third in the team standings with 29 points. St. Benedict’s Prep was first with 105 points and two-time reigning champion East Orange was second with 49 points. WOHS tied for 16th out of the 18 scoring teams.

SHP was led by Caseem Akinruli-Dewitt, who won the shot put at 52-0.25. Kevin Duffy was fourth in the 3,200 in 10:07.33. In the 1,600, Colin Schweitzer was fifth in 4:35.01 and Nolan Orr was sixth in 4:35.57. In the pole vault, Chris Peper was fourth at 10-6; Keyon Williams was fifth at 10-0 and Jared Mount was sixth at 9-6. Kennith Washington was fourth in the high jump at 5-10 and the 4×400 relay team was sixth in 3:38.81.

WOHS’ lone points were scored by  the 4×400-meter relay, which finished fifth in 3:38.35.  Justice Remar was seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:03.88.
