WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School girls’ varsity soccer team enjoyed a great season.

The Lady Mountaineers, under second-year head coach Sean Devore, finished with a stellar 12-6-3 record after falling to third-seeded Montclair, 4-0, in the semifinals of the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 tournament on Nov. 8 at Fortunato Field in Montclair. WOHS, seeded seventh, advanced to the semifinals after eliminating second-seeded Ridgewood in a penalty-kick shootout in the quarterfinals.

Leading the Mountaineers this season were freshman Natalie Nevins, who finished with 14 goals and 17 assists; senior Anabella Schuler (nine goals and 10 assists); junior Kaylese Gist (nine goals and three assists); and junior goalie Samantha Herbert (128 saves, 10 shutouts).

Other significant contributors were sophomore Nyah Harper; sophomore Mya Bembry, who anchored the back line; and sophomores Morgan Clark and Hannah Villasin, who both had a great season in sparking the midfield, said Devore.

The Mountaineers have a bright future with 10 returning starters, including five sophomores and two freshmen.
