West Orange HS girls’ soccer team improves to 6-0-2

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School girls’ soccer team, under head coach Sean DeVore, posted shutouts over Nutley and Verona to remain undefeated with a 6-0-2 record.

Senior co-captain Kaylese Gist had two goals and junior Nyah Harper scored one in the 3-0 win over Nutley on Sept. 26. Sophomore Natalie Nevins, named The Star-Ledger/NJ.com’s Essex County player of the week last week, had three assists.

The Mountaineers defeated Verona, 6-0, Sept. 28, in Verona for their sixth shutout of the season. Gist had two goals; Nevins had one goal and two assists; freshman Emma Mitchell had a goal and an assist; sophomore Kiara Machuca and junior Kaitlyn Charles each had a goal and junior Morgan Clark, freshman Kaya Schultz and junior Hannah Villasin each had one assist. Herbert made three saves.

Herbert and the defense of junior Mya Bembry, Harper, sophomore Giovanna Winning and Machuca have kept top teams at bay.
