West Orange HS girls’ soccer team is No. 1 seed in ECT

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The undefeated West Orange High School girls’ varsity soccer team, under head coach Sean DeVore has been awarded the No. 1 seed in the Essex County Tournament.

The Mountaineers will begin play in the round of 16 on or by Oct. 18 against the winner of No. 16 seed East Side and No. 17 seed Science Park. The winner of the round of 16 will advance to the quarterfinals on Oct. 20 against the winner of No. 8 seed Millburn and No. 9 seed West Essex.

Nutley is the No. 2 seed, Montclair is No. 3 and Montclair Kimberley Academy is No. 4 in the 19-team field. The semifinals will take place Oct. 24 at Belleville HS and the final is Oct. 27 at Millburn HS at 3:30 p.m.

WOHS, ranked No. 5 in New Jersey, defeated Montclair, Mount St. Dominic Academy and Newark Academy to improve to 9-0-2.

Junior Natalie Nevins had a goal and an assist, and senior Nyah Harper and freshman Kiley Capstraw each had a goal in the 3-1 win over Montclair on Oct. 9 in Montclair. Sophomore Kaya Schultz also had an assist.

Capstraw and sophomore Emma Mitchell each had a goal in the 2-1 home win over Mount St. Dominic Academy on Oct. 11. Seniors Kaitlyn Charles and Hannah Villasin each had an assist.

Schultz had a goal and had two assists on goals by Villasin and Mitchell in the 3-2 win at Newark Academy on Oct. 13 in Livingston. Nevins had an assist and Capstraw made four saves.
