WEST ORANGE, NJ – West Orange High School senior Tyler Galantini signed with Wagner College on Nov. 26 to continue his golf career.

“I am getting a partial athletic scholarship at Wagner, and I plan to major in Business Administration,” said Galantini, who attended Pleasantdale (now Kelly) Elementary, and Edison, and Liberty middle schools.

“Tyler is entering his fourth season as a varsity starter, and he leads by example, on and off the course,” noted WOHS golf coach Bill Urbanski.

Galantini’s accomplishments are impressive by any standard:

  • Three-time All-Super Essex Conference First Team Selection
  • Two-time SEC-Liberty Division Champion
  • Essex County Tournament runner-up
  • Two-time WOHS Athlete of the Month
  • Two-time State Tournament Qualifier

Galantini calls golf “an amazing game,” and at 17, has already been playing for 14 years.

“My dad taught me how to play golf when I was 3, started taking lessons when I was 6, and was in my first tournament at 7,” Galantini said.

“I would love to thank (WOHS Principal) Mr. (Hayden) Moore, (WOHS Athletic Director) Mr. (Ron) Bligh, and the Library Media Center for making this signing possible,” added Galantini, “and I would also love to thank Coach Urbanski for all of his help and support these past four years.”

Urbanski said Galantini “is an established golfer. He works continuously on all facets of his game while taking time to improve his teammates’ swing mechanics, course management and focus. Tyler thrives for the challenge of competing against the opposition’s best golfers. He is intense, passionate and one of the top golfers in Essex County and in the state. He is the definition of a student-athlete and also excels in the classroom.”
