WEST ORANGE, NJ (updated Friday June 1, 1:30 p.m.) – West Orange High School junior Tyler Galantini captured the Super Essex Conference (SEC)-Liberty Division Individual Championship on May 29 at Maplewood Country Club.
Galantini shot a 72 and was 1-over par, four shots over second-place winner Antoin Chouraqui of Newark Academy, who shot a 76.
The WOHS golf team placed fourth in division play this season.
Earlier this season, Galantini placed second overall at the Essex County Tournament with a 74; and qualified for the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 state tournament. He averaged +1.47 over parr and +1.08 over par in the conference. He had six matches of even-par and two matches of 1-under par.
“Tyler worked extremely hard all year preparing for this season and for the tournaments,” said WOHS head golf coach Bill Urbanski. “His hard work paid off, winning the league championship. He continues to improve all areas of his game and is a fierce competitor on the golf course. Tyler’s game was consistent throughout the season,” continued Urbanski. “He was always at the top of the leaderboard during matches. He leads by example with his work ethic and is eager to help other golfers on the team with course management, swing mechanics, and rulings.”
