West Orange HS, Seton Hall Prep track and field teams excel at SEC meet

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School and Seton Hall Prep track and field teams enjoyed impressive performances at the Super Essex Conference-American Division Championships meet on May 11 at Schools Stadium in Newark.

SHP finished second with 106 points and WOHS finished third with 80 points in the boys’ team standings. East Orange Campus had 119 points to win the boys’ meet title for the third year in row.

The WOHS girls’ team finished third among the six teams in the team standings. WOHS had 80 points. Montclair was first with 133 points and Columbia was second with 121 points.

The WOHS boys’ team had a few winners. Ebizie Anuamadi won the 800-meter run in 1:58.27. L’Trell Bradley won the high jump at 5-10. Elijah McLaren won the triple jump at 45-4.

Jefferson Cajuste was third in the 400 hurdles in 58.09 and fifth in both the 200 dash in 23.09 and 400 dash in 51.66. Bradley was sixth in the 110 hurdles in 16.44.

The 4×400 relay team was fourth in 3:33.45. Dylan Gotay was second in the pole vault at 11-6. In the discus, Jesus Rosas was fifth at 124-11 and Thomas Hughes was sixth at 122-7. In the javelin, Elijah Millington was third at 129-11 and Robert Miller was fifth at 126-11. Rosas was fourth in the shot put at 47-10.

For SHP, Nick Parisi won three individual events: the 100 dash in 10.71; the 200 dash in 21.73 and the 400 dash in 49.55. Caseem Akinruli-Dewitt won the shot put at 52-7 ½.

In the 100 dash, Jesse Reid was fourth in 11.26 and Ross Johnson was fifth in 11.34. Reid was third in 22.95 and Johnson took sixth in 23.15 in the 200 dash.

Michael DiDonato was second in 9:50.42 and Dan Gizzo was fifth in 9:55.59 in the 3,200 meters. Anthony Algieri was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 14.88. Roberto Hormazabel took fifth in the 400 hurdles in 58.98. In the high jump, Kevin Duffy was third at 5-6 and Kennith Washington and Myles Gomez each tied for sixth at 5-4.

In the triple jump, Justice Sims was second at 44-8 and Washington was third in 42-10. In the pole vault, Keyon Williams was fourth at 10-6 and Chis Pepper was fifth at 10-0. Algieri was second at 143-4 and Tim Polizzi was sixth at 126-10 in the javelin.

The WOHS girls’ 4×400-meter relay team finished in first place in 4:03.31.

In the 100-meter dash, Christy St. Hilaire was third in 12.80; Nai’a Peterson was fifth in 13.14 and Amiya Franklin was sixth in 13.28.

Abigail Vital was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.89; third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.17  and third in the 200-meter dash in 25.96.

Kayla Robe was fourth in 59.89 and Davionna Phillips took sixth in 1:00.68 in the 400-meter dash. Kathy Lopez-Jacobs was sixth in the 1,600 meters in 5:35.36.

Alina Chant was third in the 3,200 in 12:16.47. In the 400-meter hurdles, Robe was fourth in 1:07.77 and Kayla Charles was sixth in 1:11.32.

Tyra Brooks was second in the high jump at 5 feet. Jacquelynne Idowu took fourth in the triple jump at 35-7. In the discus, Karen Odoemene was second at 117-4 and Erica Odoemene was sixth at 104-0. In the javelin, Denae HIll took third at 38-3 ¼ and Daniella Hull was fourth at 37-5.

The Essex County Championships will take place May 18-19 at Woodman Field in Montclair.
