WEST ORANGE, NJ – West Orange High School track and field athletes enjoyed stellar performances at the NJSIAA Group 4 State Championships at Franklin HS, June 1-2.
On the boys’ side, Elijah McLaren finished fourth in the triple jump at 45 feet-9 ¾ inches and took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.36. Ebizie Anuamadi finished sixth in the 800-meter run in 1:54.24 and 11th in the 1,600-meter run in 4:21.36.
Jefferson Cajuste was 13th in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.84. The 4×100-meter relay team was sixth in 43.04; the 4×400 relay was 13th in 3:23.96; and the 4×800 took 21st in 8:36.25.
Jesus Rojas placed 21st in the discus event at 127-1. Nalima Fisher was 22nd in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash in 11.92.
On the girls’ side, Abigail Vital was third in the 100 hurdles in 14.52 and finished 12th in the 400 hurdles in 1:05.28. Tyra Brooks was sixth in the high jump at 5-2. Denae Hill placed eighth in the shot put at 37-10. Kayla Robe was 18th in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.75. Christy St. Hilaire was 16th in the 200-meter dash in 25.92; Davionna Phillips was 18th in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.65; the 4×100 relay was 11th in 49.29; the 4×400 relay took ninth in 3:57.49; Karen Odoemene placed 12th in the discus at 101-0; and Jacquelynne Idowu was 12th in the triple jump at 34-11.
The Group 4 State meet consisted of the top six finishers in each event from the sectional meets.
Vital (400 hurdles), McLaren (110 hurdles, triple jump), Anuamadi (800), Brooks (high jump) and Hill (shot put) have qualified for the NJSIAA State Meet of Champions this Saturday, June 9, at Northern Burlington County Regional HS in Columbus.
