West Orange HS wrestling team seeks success at District 12 tournament

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School varsity wrestling team hopes to make a good showing at the District 12 tournament at Becton Regional HS in East Rutherford, Feb. 16.

The fifth-seeded Mountaineers’ quest for a second straight NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 5 state tournament title fell short as they lost top-seeded Passaic County Tech 37-25, in the semifinals Feb. 6. The winners for WOHS were Damianlee Torres at the 126-pound weight class with an 8-6 decision over Mohammad Abu-Awad; James Benjamin at 132 with a 6-1 decision over Christian Vertedor; Edgar Moreno at 138 with a 9-0 major decision over Dylan Toy; Brian DiPalma with a 3-2 decision over Jamal Allan at 160; Colin Morgan with a pin in 59 seconds over Jose Guzman; Adonis May at 195 with a 3-1 win over Yosue Guzman and Nunzio Castaldo with an injury default win over Joshua Jackson at 220. Passaic Tech beat Livingston in the final Feb. 8. WOHS beat Passaic Tech to win the sectional title last year.
