West Orange HS wrestling team takes second place at District 10 tounrament

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School varsity wrestling team finished second overall at the NJSIAA District 10 tournament held at Belleville HS on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The Mountaineers had 134 points among the 10 teams. Delbarton won the team title with 314 ½ points.

WOHS, under head coach Stephan Zichella, boasted eight wrestlers who finished in the top three in their respective weight classes, out of 14 weight classes. That includes five second-place finishers and three third-place finishers.

The second-place finishers were James Benjamin at the 120-pound weight class; Michael Charles at 145; Colin Morgan at 160; Sebastian Rawls at 182; and Noah Tandy at 195.  In the semifinals, Rawls recorded his 100th career victory with a pin over Nutley’s Daniel Jennings in 3:1

Edgar Moreno, at 132; Jordan Delvalle, at 220; and Gerard Eatman, at 285 heavyweight, each won their third-place consolation bouts.

The eight WOHS wrestlers advanced to the Region 3 tournament at WOHS on Feb. 21, 23 and 24.

145: Travis Tavoso, Delbarton, technical fall over Charles, 20-4, 2:54.

160: Kieran Calvetti, Delbarton, decisioned Morgan, 5-0.

182: Cole Kreshpane, Delbarton, decisioned Rawls, 2-1.

195: Anthony Siragusa, Delbarton, decisioned Tandy, 3-1, sudden victory-1.

132: Moreno pinned Frank Riggio, Verona, 5:00.

220: Delvalle decisioned Michael Lema, East Side, 3-0.

285: Eatman decisioned Luis Abreu, Nutley, 5-4.
