WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange High School sophomore golfer Samantha Galantini placed sixth in the girls ages 14-15 division in the Drive, Chip and Putt Competition held April 4 at Augusta National Golf Course in Georgia.
The competition, canceled last year due to the pandemic, is held prior to the Master’s to promote a love of golf among youth and to bring together top players ages 7 to 15 from across the country.
After seven years of trying, Galantini got into the competition and she was glad to have the opportunity.
“Going into it, I was like, if I get first or last place, I don’t really care because I already won getting there and just doing the competition. I was trying my best in each category and I was just like, ‘whatever happens, happens,’” she said, according to a press release from the school district. “It just makes me feel amazing for the opportunity I had and that Drive, Chip and Putt provided this opportunity for kids like me to be able to get all the way to Augusta.”
