West Orange United Club Soccer teams continue stellar play

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange United Club Soccer teams continued their stellar play for the week-ending Oct. 23.

The Cosmos U8 boys continued their winning streak with a commanding 7-1 win over Paramus. Coach Saul Figueroa’s boys led by a score of 6-0 at the half and left their opponents no chance to recover from it. In the second period, the team played possession-style soccer and ended up scoring an additional goal while conceding a late consolation goal. The Cosmos have outplayed their opponents thus far and remain undefeated. The team looks to secure another win against Arsenal Soccer Club on Saturday Oct. 29, at 9 a.m. at West Orange O’Connor field.

The Gunners U9 girls continued the season this past weekend playing against an undefeated Nutley team. The two teams started by moving the ball up and down the field, but both defenses kept each team from the ability to take a decent shot on goal. Coach Telmo Nunes made some offensive changes to the lineup which opened up some scoring chances for West Orange. The Gunners were able to score two goals in the first half by Kaelyn Brown and Tiye Khalfani and held on to that lead.

The second half opened very similar to the first half with lots of passing and good ball movement, but not many scoring opportunities. Halfway through the second half, the field started to open. Both teams started to get some chances and Nutley was able to put one in the net.

The Gunners came right back with a quick goal after the restart by Ava Pannucci to take a 3-1 lead. Nutley added one last goal right before the end of the game when they were given a penalty kick. West Orange defeated Nutley, 3-2, to raise its season record to 6-0. The Gunners’ next game is Sunday, Oct. 30, at 9 a.m. at O’Connor Park in West Orange.

The Barcelona U13 boys remained undefeated, playing two games last weekend. They saw their first tie of the season, finishing 0-0 against a very talented West Morris team on Friday, Oct. 21, under the lights. The boys then beat Madison City, 4-1, Sunday, under the lights.
