West Orange United Club Soccer teams give good efforts

WEST ORANGE – West Orange United Soccer Club teams gave good efforts depsite coming up with losses recently.

The Swansea U10 girls lost a heartbreaker, 6-5, at Wyckoff Torpedoes on Sunday, April 16.

Swansea took a deserved 3-1 lead into the break on two goals by Gianna D’Amore and one by Fazi Annan. Francesa Schuler turned in a strong goal-keeping performance in the opening period. Amie Binan distributed the ball well all afternoon. Charlotte Lewis snuffed out many Torpedoes chances in a strong defensive effort. Chloe Mondi played in net for Swansea in the second half.

After the break, West Orange had numerous chances to build on its advantage, but after a period of prolonged pressure, the Torpedoes reeled off three quick strikes to take a 4-3 lead.

Shelly Gualipa was a force in the midfield throughout the match. Lucy Fishkin evened the score at 4 with only minutes to play, but the Torpedoes struck right back with a free kick to take the lead once again.

Fishkin scored her second of the day on a free kick to tie the match at 5, but the Torpedoes finished the scoring with yet another free kick right before the final whistle.

Maya Bank hit the post and nearly scored on a powerful, looping shot. Josephine Locricchio had quality chances as well for Swansea.

The Sounders U10 boys traveled to Moonachie to take on the Aviators. In the first half, the Aviators took the lead 5-2 and the teams played to a 0-0 tie in the second, enabling the home team to take the win, 5-2.

The Sounders received goals from Hudson Stovall and Michael Udodi and are now 1-1-0 on the season.
