West Orange United Soccer Club teams enjoy victories

WEST ORANGE – The Swansea U10 girls and the Fury U12 girls of the West Orange United Soccer Club enjoyed victories for the week-ending May 22.

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the Swansea U10 girls defeated River Dell, 6-2, at River Dell Middle School. Madison Cyrus opened the scoring for Swansea on a rocket from the top of the box. Madison Cyrus then doubled the lead on a beautiful pass from Francesca Schuler. Josephine Loricchio joined in on the scoring with a goal, assisted by Madison Cyrus. Gianna D’Amore was solid in goal, only giving up one goal in the half.

To open the second half, Fazi Annan sent a rocket into the goal on a perfectly-placed pass from Amie Binan. Fazi Annan added another one and finished the day with two goals.

Madison Cyrus completed the hat trick with her third goal late in the second half. Thanks to the great goaltending by Brooke Schenk, and excellent defensive play by Madison Cyrus, Josephine Locricchio, and Charlotte Lewis, the score remained 6-2 despite not having any substitutions.

The Fury U12 girls continued their undefeated season with a 2-0 win over West Morris. Kennedy Morgan scored the first goal. Britney Fort Foskey scored on a powerful strike from the 18-yard line.

Caitlin Bridgers, Lizzie Fleming and Olivia Telemaque all had numerous shots on goal while working hard in the midfield. Tori Rideau Winds and Nia Simson on defense helped the Fury keep possession 86 percent of the match. Camille Ferrell was the keeper as she recorded the shutout.
