West Orange United Soccer Club teams give good efforts for week-ending Sept. 18

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange United Soccer Club teams enjoyed good efforts for the week-ending Sept. 18.

The Cosmos U8 boys won their season opener against Tenafly by a score of 7-2. The team controlled the game from the start and never looked back. Outstanding  plays came from Tafsir Diop, who scored four goals. Zachary McNeil played well on defense. Gianni Locricchio and Ilan Salama made great saves in goal and each scored a goal. John Rebaza, Dominic Pulmano and Maddox Brufau also impressed with their relentless effort.

The Flash U11 girls played a good season opener with a 3-3 draw against a strong Lenape Valley team. Flash had a slow start to the game and were down 2-0 at halftime. However, the girls pushed back, gained control of the second half, and capitalized on three well-constructed plays to erase the deficit and take the lead.

Team Flash kept up the pressure with back-to-back corners and runs on goal, but fell short of a well-deserved win. The Lenape Valley Lady Patriots equalized late in the game on a counter attack and were happy to take the draw.

After going 0-10 last year,  Real Madrid U12 boys defeated the Madison Carnivores, 6-0, in their first game of the season. Arthur Rosu scored a hat trick and Joe Mignone and Matthew Nwokoro each had goal. Daniel Vietrogoski played keeper and scored a goal. Jay Straker played keeper for the second half and kept the shutout for the boys. The rest of the boys played a strong game and contributed for Coach Casey Doyle’s first win with the team.

The Liverpool U14 boys, playing U.S. Palma Royal Academy, started slow in the first half  and were soon down, 1-0. A shot from Louis Mignone took a deflection and over the goalkeeper’s head to tie it. Liverpool created numerous chances, but could not score. With seconds left in the half, Palma scored to take a 2-1 halftime lead. In the second half, after a resounding  team talk, Liverpool started playing with aplomb. A goal from Ari Rosu and another from Nico Vasquez saw Liverpool take the lead and control of the game. Dominant defensive play came from Connor Hinfey and Jack Quirk. Jeremy Green and Dylan Retino kept Palma at bay. Santiago Orrico, Angus Kupinas and Nicholos Relicario started to dominate the midfield, freeing up Lou Mignone to score another three goals to give Liverpool a comfortable 6-2 win.
