ORANGE, NJ — Fresh from his induction into the first class of the East Orange Hall of Fame at the Cicely Tyson School of the Performing and Fine Arts on Saturday, Nov. 25, actor and East Orange native John Amos is scheduled to appear at the Montclair Child Development Center in Orange on Thursday, Dec. 14, where he will read his recently published children’s book, “A World Without Color,” for the school’s Head Start Pre-School students.
Amos is recognized for his role portraying James Evans, the father on the popular 1970s television program “Good Times,” and this was how Tom Finch, the master of ceremonies at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony introduced him, saying, “Let’s hear it for ‘James’ from ‘Good Times,’” on Saturday, Nov. 25.
But on Thursday, Dec. 14, Amos will be introduced as the author of the children’s book “A World Without Color.”
“A discussion with the children will follow the reading,” said Roslyn Terry, Montclair Child Development Center deputy director of operations, Monday, Dec. 11. “The children, families and staff are very excited about Amos’ visit and look forward to welcoming him to (the center).”
The Montclair Child Development Center is a local extension of the federally funded Head Start program that partners with the Orange Board of Education. According to Terry, the center provides free, high-quality pre-school and related services, including bus transportation, meals, family support and physical, mental and oral wellness services.
