Police apprehend Newark bank robbery suspect

NEWARK, NJ — A man who robbed the TD Bank located at 105 Mulberry St. was arrested at Penn Station some 14 minutes after the robbery was reported.

On Friday, Nov. 11, at approximately 12:36 p.m., police responded to 105 Mulberry St. after receiving a hold-up alarm from the bank. Responding officers ascertained the suspect’s description and a Newark police officer and NJ Transit lieutenant located the suspect in Penn Station at about 12:50 p.m.

The officers arrested the suspect without incident. He is identified as 35-year-old, David M. Burton, a White Plains, N.Y., resident, who is charged with bank robbery. No weapon was shown during the robbery and no injuries were reported.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose commends the swift response of the Newark police officers and NJ Transit lieutenant for their coordinated efforts, which led to the arrest of the bank robber.
