EAST ORANGE, NJ — The 5th Ward will screen “The Secret Life of Pets” on Friday, July 26, at 7 p.m. as part of the Movies at the Masjid series at Masjid As Habul Yameen on 18th Street in East Orange, as a collaboration between Imam Abdul Aziz, the East Orange City Council, and 5th Ward Councilwoman Alicia Holman and Councilman Mustafa Brent.
“The movie starts at dusk,” said Holman on Monday, July 22. “It’s free and open to the public and we’re going to have food, music and face painting. All children must be accompanied by an adult, but we’re inviting the entire East Orange community to come out in fellowship and watch a great movie at a great location.”
Former 5th Ward City Council candidate Royston Allman said he plans to put politics aside and attend the Movies at the Masjid event. Allman is a member of the Ampere Civic Improvement Association, which includes the 18th Avenue business district where Masjid As Habul Yameen is located.
“I’m going to try to be there,” said Allman on Monday, July 22.
Holman said the screening is the latest 5th Ward event in East Orange in the tradition of the second Citywide Graduation Party and second All Ward Bike Tour, both of which took place on Saturday, June 29.
“We had over 100 cyclists at the second annual All Ward Bike Tour and Prosecutor Ted Stephens rode a bike as well,” Holman said Tuesday, July 2. “The second annual Celebration of Education was a celebration of continuing your education for all grades and everyone, whether you graduated or not.”
Holman added that Movies at the Masjid will be the same type of community-oriented event. For more information, call Kaylan Jones at 973-266-5120.
