BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield resident Alan Faynzilberg, 19, was arrested by Belleville police Thursday, July 28, and charged with vehicular homicide in the death of Belleville resident Luis Davila, 33, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Faynzilberg was the driver of a car that crossed into oncoming Belleville Avenue traffic, hitting Davila head-on. Faynzilberg was also charged with aggravated assault for serious injuries sustained by his girlfriend, a passenger in his vehicle. Faynzilberg was also injured in the crash and required medical attention. He was arrested at his home.
According to the Essex County Correctional Facility website, Faynzilberg was charged with vehicular homicide on or near a school property and driving while intoxicated and causing serious bodily injury on or near a school property. His bail was set at $350,000. As of Monday, Aug. 1, he had not been released.
The website also included information that Faynzilberg had previously been arrested and incarcerated October 2015 for possession and distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Faynzilberg was scheduled for a hearing in Newark Superior Court on Tuesday, Aug. 2, before Judge Ronald Wigler. Assistant Essex County Prosecutor Tara Creegan will prosecute the case.
