Donaldson is indicted on 36 counts, husband on 1

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Former Bloomfield High School coach and teacher Leo Donaldson and his husband, Bradley, were indicted by a grand jury June 5 on 37 counts. Bradley Donaldson was indicted on just one count.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Leo Donaldson was indicted on multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, criminal sexual contact and criminal coercion.

The various alleged criminal acts occurred in 2015 and 2016 in Jersey City and Bloomfield, including at Bloomfield High School. In addition, Leo Donaldson was indicted for showing a pornographic video of himself to a child.
The count for which Bradley Donaldson was indicted involves participating in games with four minors requiring them to fully undress in the presence of himself and Leo Donaldson.

Leo Donaldson was arrested Oct. 27, 2016, after being discharged from a hospital he had entered Oct. 20, the day Bloomfield School District authorities were notified of his arrest warrant.

He was released from the Essex County Correctional Facility on March 13, 2017, after posting a bail of $300,000, with no 10 percent. He had been incarcerated for 134 days. His original bail was $400,000. He is represented by Tim Smith, of Fairfield. Leo Donaldson’s next court appearance is Oct. 6. Smith said it is for a status conference.

“We don’t even know if there is going to be a trial,” Smith said. “It’s way too early. We still haven’t gotten the grand jury minutes. We’re still evaluating.”
