EAST ORANGE, NJ — East Orange Mayor Ted Green is inviting the public to play a round of golf while supporting a good cause at the annual Ted R. Green Foundation Golf Outing on Monday, Sept. 24, at the East Orange Golf Course in Short Hills.
Check-in for the golf outing is 8 a.m., with a 9 a.m. tee time, and Green said it’s going to be worthwhile as the event will raise money for scholarships for East Orange students who want to pursue a college or university education. The foundation’s mission is: “to empower urban youth to be college and career ready, by providing the necessary financial assistance to further their education, so they may reach their truest potential.”
“This is the second annual golf outing for the Ted R. Green Foundation. Last year, we were able to give out $15,000 in scholarships,” said Green on Sunday, Sept. 16. “I have to thank … my wife, June Green, who has spearheaded the Ted R. Green Foundation. We are proud that we are able to give back to our young people that are going to college, to help them further education.”
Green said he and his wife are also proud of the support and financial donations they have received from the sponsors that are helping to provide scholarships for aspiring East Orange students.
“It’s not just money for books and the necessities, but the scholarships will go toward their tuition too, so we’re back at it again at the East Orange Golf Course,” the mayor said. “We’re proud of everyone that has contributed to the foundation and it’s getting bigger and better every year. We want to thank all our donors and contributors to the Ted R. Green Foundation. It shows that they are committed to empowering our youth, because they understand that our young people are the future and we’ve got to do everything that we can today to nurture them and support them, to prepare them for their future leadership roles in our city, our community and our society.”
The inaugural Green Foundation Golf Outing was in 2017, before Green’s election as mayor, so this will be his first time hosting the event as the city’s mayor.
“We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation and the Ted R. Green Foundation is just building on what I was already doing for years in the city and the community as the 3rd Ward councilman,” Green said. “We know for a fact that, when we help our young people go to college, it helps the local economy as well. We want to make sure that we provide the financial resources to help our young people fulfill their potential. We’re excited and looking to raise even more money than we did last year. We want to do everything that we can to show young people that their entire community is behind them.”
