GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The Kiwanis Club of Glen Ridge held its fourth annual OctoberFeast at the Glen Ridge Women’s Club on Monday, Oct. 16.
The ballroom of the club had 16 restaurateurs and three dessert establishments feeding the paying guests. There were four beverage tables offering samples of handcrafted hard liquors, homemade beers, glasses of wine and Starbuck’s coffee. The hallway leading to the ballroom was lined on both sides with gift baskets while a smaller room across from the ballroom was crowded with tables, chairs and diners. Among the guests was Glen Ridge resident Bill Seeman, the governor-elect of the NJ District of Kiwanis International. He said he aims to achieve membership growth over the next year.

Lynn Oliver, a past Kiwanis lieutenant governor, said 200 tickets to the event had been sold. This raised $10,000. She said the money is used to support three scholarships for Glen Ridge High School students; Key Clubs at the Glen Ridge, Montclair, and Clifton high schools; and a newly established Circle K at Montclair State University. Many of the people in attendance were not Kiwanis members or Glen Ridge residents but came because of the elegant setting, array of foods and the charity work for which Kiwanis is known. Some of the proceeds from the ticket sales will go to Kiwanis International which provides medicines to fight iodine deficiency that afflicts pregnant women and their offspring in underdeveloped countries.

The program is administered by UNICEF.
