GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The Kiwanis Club of Glen Ridge held its OctoberFeast on Monday, Oct. 24, at the Glen Ridge Women’s Club. The event attracted about 250 people who had the opportunity to sample food, desserts and beverages prepared and donated by local businesses.

The purpose of the feasting was to raise funds for three Kiwanis causes.
The first cause is the support of Kiwanis International’s Worldwide Service Project. Kiwanis Clubs everywhere are currently partnering with UNICEF in The Project Elimination.

This is the eradication of a health issue in the developing world over a five-year period. The current health issue being addressed is neonatal tetanus. The drive is in its third year, according to Glen Ridge club member, Jeff Monicelli. Kiwanis International and UNICEF previously teamed-up to eliminate
iodine deficiency.

“Kiwanis wiped it out,” he said on Monday.
The second cause has just been initiated. This is the use of music therapy for individuals on the autism spectrum.

“We’re going to work with local organizations to do this,” Monicelli said.
The third reason for the OctoberFeast is college scholarships for Glen Ridge High School seniors,

The event raises the money through ticket sales, a tricky-tray raffle, sponsorships and a 50/50 drawing.

OctoberFeast was chaired by Joe Marchesano, Sean Crockett and Monacelli. The 50 or so tricky-tray gift baskets were assembled by Erin Crockett, Katy Walters, Raff Marchesano and Elaine Monacelli.
