Maplewood police disband rowdy teens on train

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Maplewood police officers responded to assist New Jersey Transit on March 7 at approximately 7:28 p.m. on a report of a large group of disorderly juveniles on a train, according to a March 9 release from the Maplewood Police Department. When officers arrived, NJ Transit employees advised officers that there was a large group of high school-aged males and females on the train traveling to Broad Street in Newark. NJ Transit employees further reported that some of the teens were throwing bottles, using excessively foul language and engaging in an exchange of words with individuals from rival schools.

Officers from the Maplewood and South Orange police departments boarded the train to resolve the problem, according to the release. The group complied with instructions given by officers and order was restored with the exception of one adult male from Morristown, who was arrested and charged with improper behavior by the Maplewood police. The train was subsequently able to continue with NJ Transit officers onboard.
