ORANGE, NJ — The Orange Fire Department will host its annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner at the Chief Martin DeMarzo Fire Headquarters, located at the corner of Lincoln and Central avenues, on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the firefighters are inviting everyone from the city community to take part in the holiday meal.
“We’re proud to host the Orange Fire Department Gift to Give Thanksgiving Feast again this year,” said fire Director Kenneth Douglas on Monday, Nov. 20. “It’s been going on for over 10 years and it’s gotten bigger and bigger every year. We circulate fliers in town and around town and invite anybody that wants to have a hot meal or share Thanksgiving dinner to come out and join us.”
Douglas has been the fire director for the last few years, since being appointed by Mayor Dwayne Warren and approved by the City Council, and he said he always looks forward to the Orange Fire Department’s Gift to Give Thanksgiving Feast, since it really does show the fundamental values of the men and women in the fire service.
“We look forward to having everybody come,” said Douglas. “We could use some volunteers. Anyone that wants to volunteer can call my office, one of the proudest moments of the year, because it begins our holiday season and it’s a way to give back to the community and people that support us.”
Capt. Derek Brown agreed, saying, “We do this every year. It’s a tradition in the Fire Department and something that we do for the community. It’s a labor of love that we do, because we appreciate the members of the community that we serve. It’s going to be a good time, with good food and good fellowship and family, including our extended Orange community family.”
