NJ Transit bus and passenger vehicle collide

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Department of Public Safety reported that an NJ Transit bus and a passenger vehicle collided at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Market Street on Oct. 24.

At approximately 4:33 a.m., the bus was traveling eastbound on Market Street and the passenger vehicle, a silver 1996 Honda Accord, was traveling westbound, also on Market Street, when the two vehicles collided. Damage was sustained to the fronts of both vehicles.

The bus was occupied by passengers at the time of the collision, and the passenger vehicle was occupied by the driver and one other person. All were transported to University Hospital for treatment. No serious injuries have been reported.

The Honda’s driver, a 19-year-old Orange man, has been issued summonses for the following traffic violations: careless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, failure to exhibit license, failure to exhibit registration and for being an unlicensed driver. The vehicle’s owner was also written a summons for allowing the vehicle to be operated by an unlicensed driver.

The investigation is ongoing and active.
