ORANGE, NJ — The Orange School District will be participating in “Jeans for Troops Day” on Thursday, May 24. Then, on Friday, June 1, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Orange’s School District and Board of Education invite education stakeholders to participate in the English Language Arts Story Con at Lincoln Avenue Elementary School to find out who won the title “Most Well Read” in each of the categories and which schools won the top prizes.
School officials said the district didn’t manage to meet all its goals for this year’s Page Turners Reading Challenge, but the students did put in an effort deserving of recognition.
“The 2017-2018 Orange Page Turners Reading challenge is over! Although we did not make it to 2 million pages read, we did collaboratively record 1,753,627 pages,” said interim Superintendent of Schools Ronald Lee on Monday, May 21. “Over 500,000 pages more than last year! So there is still much to celebrate.”
All are invited to the ELA Block Party at Lincoln Avenue School on June 1, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
“The theme is ‘Story Con,’ so come as your favorite storybook character and get free tickets,” Lee said.
“Also, on Thursday, May 24, the district will participate in Jeans for Troops Day, conducted by the G.I. Go Fund. This is a national dress-down day, to raise money to benefit veterans, in honor of Memorial Day. Staff members who choose to participate can wear jeans to work for $5 and students who choose to participate can wear jeans to school for $1.”
