MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Friday, Nov. 17, marked the first ever Friendsgiving celebration at the Maplewood Senior Center at 106 Burnett Ave.

“We wanted to celebrate with our seniors before they gather with their families to celebrate Thanksgiving,” Melissa Mancuso, Director of Recreation and Cultural Affairs for the township, said. “We are grateful for our seniors, and wanted to honor that by bringing inspirational speaker Scott Chesney in to remind us about what really matters and the importance of gratitude. Scott was perfect to kick off our holiday season. Everyone left here feeling a little lighter, even though we enjoyed a huge meal and a boatload of desserts.”

The menu included the standard fare of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and veggies, and the senior citizens brought dozens of desserts to share with the crowd. The afternoon was capped off with a few rounds of “autumn bingo” with fun prizes.
