MAPLEWOOD, NJ — SOMA Two Towns for All Ages will present a senior housing forum on Sunday, Nov. 4, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at The Woodland, 60 Woodland Road in Maplewood; the event will feature local speakers addressing important topics for residents who want to age in place, need help to stay in their house or are considering options for where they will live in retirement. This event is geared toward residents who are retired, as well as adults who are planning ahead or helping parents make plans for staying safely in their homes.
Topics will include: age-friendly renovations; the “Homefit” guide by AARP; energy efficiency and home improvements; what to do if you want to downsize; senior housing options, such as apartments, assisted living and more; how to apply for subsidized housing; technology in your home; understanding home health care; Community Coalition on Race’s home maintenance loans; senior property tax freeze; and decluttering and organizing for a safe home. Additionally, there will be information, on local senior programming and classes, transportation, and volunteering, as well as giveaways and raffle prizes from local businesses.
