Take the LGBT Senior Housing and Care survey

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Green Hill Senior Living in West Orange, in collaboration with Garden State Equality, launched the LGBT Senior Housing and Care Needs Assessment Survey to New Jersey residents 55 and older who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

Green Hill and New Jersey LGBT stakeholders have joined together to create a model of best practice in long-term care housing and services for LGBT seniors of all economic levels, race, religions and cultures, and to advocate for and share this model across the aging services field. The results of the LGBT Senior Housing and Care Needs Assessment Survey will be instrumental in developing this best practice model.

Green Hill and Garden State Equality are asking New Jersey’s LGBT residents 55 and older to respond to the survey before the May 15 deadline. Visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LGBTSeniorHousingandCare to the take the survey.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Community Living estimates that “between 1.75 and 4 million American ages 60 and over are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.” Green Hill believes that is incumbent upon elder care providers to create homes for, and provide resources, care and programming to the elder LGBT community.

“It is time to integrate our specialized training in providing a welcoming home and person-directed life and health care for our growing LGBT elder community with programming and support services needed and desired across the care spectrum to ensure the LGBT community is well-served, and feels at home in a community care setting,” Green Hill Executive Director and President Donna Lazartic said in a press release.

The results of the survey will be shared to the public at the first LGBT Senior Housing and Care Expo in New Jersey on Saturday, June 9, at Green Hill, 103 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange.
