WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange’s senior services department will hold numerous events in the coming months for the township’s senior citizens.
- The Department of Senior Services and the Department of Health present an informational session with Umbrella, a company that helps senior homeowners save money on home repairs for a flat yearly rate and hires qualified seniors to perform tasks and repairs. This session will be Thursday, Oct. 10, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the West Orange Public Library, 46 Mt. Pleasant Ave. Pre-registration is required.
- Senior Freeze Property Tax Reimbursement workshop. The New Jersey Division of Taxation will present a program that explains eligibility criteria, answers questions and assists with completion of the application. This workshop will be Friday, Oct. 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the West Orange Public Library, 46 Mt. Pleasant Ave.
- Conversation of Your Life series: It is time to have the conversation of your life to let family, friends and health care providers understand your wishes through advanced care planning. On Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., professionals will host “Starting the Conversation: Personal Values,” which will screen the short video “Anna’s Story,” followed by a discussion on personal values regarding one’s medical, emotional and spiritual well-being. On Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., learn the importance of advanced care planning with discussions about choosing a health care proxy and useful documents to have. These sessions will be at West Orange Public Library, 46 Mt. Pleasant Ave. Pre-registration is required.
- Senior Halloween Party: Seniors are invited to dress up for this party on Friday, Oct. 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Katz Civic Center, 650 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange. There will be lunch, a costume contest, games, door prizes and a DJ. Admission is charged. For transportation call, 973-325-4134 by Oct. 21. Tickets will be sold through Oct. 18.
