BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield U14 boys’ soccer team, of the Bloomfield Soccer Club, is headed to Tulsa, Okla. to compete in the US Youth Soccer National President’s Cup Tournament, July 14-18.

The U14 team initially won the New Jersey Youth Soccer Presidents Cup last fall to  advance  to the Regional Tournament in Maryland over Memorial Day Weekend.  Bloomfield won that tournament to advance to the Nationals in Tulsa.

This team has been playing together in Bloomfield since the U8 level and some even before that in Little Cleats and Intown. They currently play in the EDP League Division 2 Central, where they compete with some of the top teams in New Jersey.

“This is a very special team for many reasons,” said Kellie Fabiano, the team’s manager, in an email. “However, two reasons that stand out to me is that we were able to keep the majority of the boys together for so long in Bloomfield (academies like to scoop up good players) and we compete at a very high level against teams that have far bigger budgets than us and we are showing them that we can compete and win.

This past spring, we were a quarterfinalist in the US Club’s 2016 New Jersey Cup in  the Super Group bracket where we competed against the top 10 teams in the State of New Jersey. Unfortunately, we lost to the number one team in the state, Wall Soccer Club.”

The team currently is trying to raise money for the boys’ travel expenses to compete at the National tournament in July through a GoFundMe page and some other local fundraisers.

“We will have a concession stand at Foley Field this Saturday (June 11),” said Fabinao.

Thanks for the news coverage. This is a good team, well coached, ethnically diverse, and representing Bloomfield very well at every level of competition

It will be good to see follow up coverage as to how they fare in the national competition in Oklahoma.
