Irvington HS cross-country/track coach Marvin Hawkins achieves 400th career victory

IRVINGTON, NJ – Desmond Marfo finished first overall in 19:58 and the Irvington High School boys’ varsity cross-country team defeated North 13th St. Tech, 22-36, Sept. 27, at Branch Brook Park to give head coach Marvin Hawkins his 400th career victory as a cross-country and track and field coach.

Michael Veltz took second in 20:19; followed by William Lugo-Ramirez, fourth, 21:08; Phillip Polk, seventh, 21:44; Tavaughn Whyte, eighth, 22:10; Claudel St. Clair, ninth, 22:49; and Wolf Michel, 11th, 23:53, for the Blue Knights.

With the win, the Blue Knights finished with a dual-meet record of 2-7 in the very competitive Liberty Division of the Super Essex Conference.

The Blue Knights will now begin preparations for the first of four remaining championship meets, beginning with the SEC Championships on Oct. 5, followed by the Essex County Championships on Oct. 28 at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield, State Sectionals on Nov. 5 at Greystone Park, and the National Regional Championships on Nov. 26 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York.
