NUTLEY (updated Thursday June 16, 2:16 p.m.) – The Nutley High School softball team enjoyed another strong season under longtime venerable head coach Luann Zullo.

The Raiders featured several outstanding players who earned All-Super Essex Conference-American Division honors.

They include senior left-handed pitcher Emily Holden, senior third baseman Breanna DeMaio, and senior shortstop Stefanie Ziemer, who all made First Team All-SEC-American Division; junior second baseman Samantha Echevarria and senior catcher Danielle Pomponio, who both made Second Team; and senior center fielder Alanis Concepcion and junior first baseman Lauren Hogan, who both made Honorable Mention.

Holden, DeMaio, Ziemer, Echevarria, Pomponio and Concepcion made Worrall Media All-Area First Team. Hogan is on the All-Area Second Team.

In addition, Holden is the All-Area Player of the Year and Zullo is the All-Area Coach of the Year.

The Raiders finished with a 23-7 record. As the defending champion, the Raiders advanced to the semifinals of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 tournament, losing to Middletown South, 8-4, in eight innings.

    I apologize for the error. It should be Holden, not Hogan, who is the Player of the Year.
