Irvington mayor ready for EO mayor’s first Black Tie Gala

PARSIPPANY, NJ — East Orange Mayor Ted Green will be hosting his first Black Tie Gala at the Hilton Parsippany Hotel on Saturday, March 17, at 7 p.m.

But Green’s friend, former boss and fellow municipal leader, Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss, said he already knows everything he needs to know about the event. Green worked as the Building Department director in Vauss’ administration from 2014 until last year, when he took a leave of absence to run for mayor of the city of East Orange.

Vauss is known for hosting good parties, after earning the truism “Ain’t no party like a Tony Vauss party” back when he served as the Irvington Board of Education president, prior to being elected mayor in 2014. Since then, he has more than lived up to that reputation, hosting his annual Mayor’s Ball, which has become a must-attend event on the Essex County and New Jersey Democratic party calendar.

But Vauss said he doesn’t feel any kind of competition, when it comes to Green’s first Black Tie Gala. They even share the same birth date and have shared family vacations with their spouses.

“I guess this is his first one. It remains to be seen how it’s going to compare to any of the parties I’ve thrown in the past, including my annual Mayor’s Ball,” said Vauss on Tuesday, March 13. “I will be there to support him. He was at every one of mine and I will be at every one of his. Now people can look forward to two parties a year — the East Orange Black Tie Affair and the Irvington Mayor’s Ball.”

Green agreed that there is no pressure to equal or surpass Vauss’ party-planning standards, but he said he hopes everyone will attend the Hilton Parsippany Hotel event on Saturday, March 17, to celebrate at his first Black Tie Gala.

“Tony is my friend, so I know that he always wants what’s best for me, the same way that I always want nothing but the best for him,” said Green on Monday, March 12. “Everyone is welcome to come out to the gala. You are good; just wear your tuxedo.”

Tickets for the event are $300 apiece and anyone interested in attending needs to R.S.V.P. with H&P Consulting LLC as soon as possible.
