Mayor partners with New Irvington Manor for toy giveaway

IRVINGTON, NJ — Mayor Tony Vauss is scheduled to host another toy giveaway on Sunday, Dec. 20, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the New Irvington Manor, across the street from the town’s bus terminal on Springfield Avenue.
And Sirett Fuller, one of the manor’s co-owners, along with her brother, Daniel Frett, said she is excited about it being that time of year again.

“Dec. 20, we will be giving away toys,” said Fuller on Saturday, Dec. 12. “The first 100 children will be getting toys directly from Mayor Vauss. It’s from 3 to 7 p.m. And we will have Uncle Magic there and jumpy houses; free popcorn; free cotton candy for the kids; just a day of fun and giveaway for the kids.”

“After that, on Dec. 27, we’re having a Community Kwanzaa event that we have every year. There will also be a toy giveaway. (The event) will also consist of African drummers and dancers and someone will be speaking on the meaning of Kwanzaa and the dates of what each day of the holiday is.”

Fuller said it is a pleasure to partner with Vauss and Irvington to hold a safe, fun holiday event for children and families in town. She said it is all part of the New Irvington Manor’s mission to serve as a venue and outlet for local talent, culture and culturally-themed and oriented events.

“We’re a part of the community and we want to make sure that everyone knows that we are representing Irvington — and not really only Irvington and not really only Essex County — but New Jersey,” said Fuller. “We want to make sure that we build the area up and let them know that we’re not only just an events center; we’re also there for cultural events and we’re also there for hopefully schools of arts. So we have different things going on.”

Vauss said he likes what Fuller, Frett and the rest of their family are doing with their family-owned business. He said supporting and patronizing local businesses and entrepreneurs who want to do good in the community, in addition to doing good financially, is a good move.

“We need businesses like the Irvington Manor and businesspeople like the Frett and Fuller family,” said Vauss at the township’s annual Holiday Tree-Lighting ceremony in Civic Square on Thursday, Dec. 3.
Fuller said that was high praise, coming from Vauss, and she is grateful and thankful for it.

“That’s what we opened our doors for, so we’re not going to change that,” said Fuller. “If anything, we’re trying to make that stronger and make it build and connect more, to let folks know that, when they want something done, as far as the community, they can come to us. … This is our third Kwanzaa; this is our second holiday event, and we hope to be doing it for the next 20, 30, 40 years.”
